It’s a typical Sunday at my house. The cleaning is done, the kids are off playing and it’s a day for our family to relax. My husband has a football game on and by now it has been on for hours…..(don’t get me wrong I love a good game but three games in one day! You’re killing me NFL!) Where does an internet junkie go after Facebook isn't cutting it. Why Pinterest of course!
So, why do I feel like crap afterwards?
For those of you who aren't familiar with Pinterest it’s a website that allows you to create virtual boards where you can pin images. These images connect to websites, tumbler accounts and blogs which you can to review or save for later (I also use the images as inspiration). The “pins” are set up into different categories and the options are literally endless. Think a virtual vision board (yes, I had one with images of Seventeen magazine cut out of hair styles, celebrity crushes and make up). I have one for dinner ideas, crafts with the kids, things that I think are funny and don’t even get me started on the endless items I have for my fashion, home and beauty boards.
It’s fun and addicting, but at the same time, can leave a sour taste in your mouth. Imagine endless hours of window shopping all while wondering why you don’t have the money for big ticket items or looking at something you’re just not ready for yet (home ownership). You get your hopes up and create unrealistic expectations for your spending.
Moral of the story: Go on Pinterest with the attitude that I will look up things that I enjoy but as soon as my attitude turns to regret or irritation I will put down the phone, tell myself that materialist pleasures are not the guiding force for my attitude and resume my day. Check out my Pinterest (but not for five hours straight):
